When you are near Mariborsko Pohorje, you definitely have to visit peak Bolfenk. Bolfenk is rising 1050 meters above sea level, right above city Maribor. Many paths are leading on it, also suitable for mountain biking, and of course a road for cars. If you go on Bolfenk from Maribor you have to turn to Ho?e and continue driving on the asphalted road for about 15 kilometers.
The second possibility is more elegant and takes you on the top of Bolfenk through air, from hotel Habakuk in Zgornje Radvanje. A legend says that Bolfenk was a shepherd and Pohorje was a pasture for his sheep or livestock. During a meditation he wished to build a church there, and the devil offered him a deal. He would build a church in one day, if he could take the soul of the first pilgrim, who would arrive at the church. Shepherd Bolfenk accepted the deal, the devil built the church, and the first visitor was coincidentally a wolf, from whom then the devil took a soul. Then he became so furious that he ripped the wolf and crashed to the wall of the church, where a big hole can be found even today.
Bolfenk is a natural attraction, which offers local people a great hideout from a busy city life. Walks in the unspoiled nature in the daytime or evening are possible in every season and every weather. The most unpleasant experience is in case of thick fog, which luckily occurs rarely, which is also important in winter, so many nearby ski resorts can be as well utilized as possible.
When you arrive on Bolfenk, you are at the beginning of Styrian Transverse, and in the 80s, there was also a forest learning path. You can pass the height difference of around 200 meters and make a trip to a Ruška ko?a on Areh. Bolfenk is also a name of a hotel in the vicinity, which offers swimming pool, spa and whirpool, and it also has a beautiful and modern apartment complex. Ski resorts and sports fields are in the immediate vicinity, and they are quite frequent in this part of Pohorje. Pohorje also hosts mountain bikers, which really enjoy nearby slopes, and in winter there are many snowboarders and sledding lovers beside skiers.
