Pohorje is located at the eastern edge of the Alps, bordering on Pannonian basin. On the northern and western side is bordered with the river Drava, and on the other side with the river Savinja. On the eastern end, where Pohorje ends in viniferous hills, is located the second biggest Slovenian city Maribor. Slovenske Konjice, Zre?e and modern city Celje are situated on the southern side of Pohorje.

Most peaks are higher than 1300 meters above sea level, the most known Rogla is even higher than 1500 meters, but there are also some higher mountains.
