Pohorje – in winter

When cities get covered with snow, Pohorje is already white for some time. If the temperatures are low enough, artificial snow is made on ski slopes. With that they make skiing season longer, as it starts earlier and ends later. But due to the altitude, from 900 (of course also lower) to over 1500 meters, snow falls earlier than in the valley.
Pohorje has tens of maintained ski slopes. The most of them are in Mariborsko Pohorje and Rogla. You can also ski elsewhere, also in the proximity of some bigger cities, for example Šoštanj, where known ski slopes Strmec, Trije kralji and others are located.

The number of guests in winter in Pohorje is increasing. Winter entertainment is enjoyed by many skiers, sledders, snowboarders, cross country skiers and other visitors from all around the world. You can also just go for a walk. In this case, you should take hiking poles, as the walk in snow can be very exhausting. Even though Pohorje has no steep slopes, the altitude on longer hikes can be very various, although the starting and ending point are on the same height.

Some ski slopes on Pohorje offer a possibility of night skiing, which variegates the evenings and enables skiing to those, who have no time during the day. So also those ski lovers, who work during the day, can enjoy skiing in the evening. Almost everywhere you can hire ski instructors, who will guide the beginners down the easier ski tracks. The most difficult tracks are of course reserved for more experienced skiers. As difficult are considered ski slopes on Rogla Jurgovo 1, Jurgovo 2, and Jurgovo 3. Besides Rogla, which can be accessed from Slovenske Konjice, the most ski slopes are in Mariborsko Pohorje.

They have more than 45 kilometers of maintained ski tracks, and new are already being prepared. Ski slopes are on Areh, Bolfenk and at the hotel Habakuk. With ski pass for several days, skiers can use also other ski slopes, like Kope, Kranjska Gora and Ribniško Pohorje.
Before you visit ski slopes, you should check the weather forecast, and you can also check direct video footages from some parts of Pohorje and so check the weather conditions with your own eyes.

The beginners can participate in skiing school, and younger in skiing kindergarten. Somewhere they also organize smaller competitions, which offer more entertainment, and some tracks also have speedometers.
Of course it is well taken care of good food. Pohorje is known for its delicious cuisine. Here you can sense mixture of different cuisines and influence of nearby viniferous regions.
